IS THE NEW GENERATION CONCERNED WITH POLITICS?

as written by TOBOASE E. AMARTEY.

What is politics in the first place and how is an individual concerned? Many people will bear with me how the new age is more concerned with issues of entertainment, lifestyle, fashion, food, travel, the Internet and other beautiful things they can explore. Life is truly beautiful without the brouhaha, the daily debates and all the acts people put on just to win love and followers. Someone might not necessarily be a politician to know what politics really entails.
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, politics may mean:
A:  the art or science of government
B:  the art or science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy
C: the art or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government.
NOT to pull a judgemental stance, politics is not entirely evil. The act of politics is multifaceted and can be taken from many perspectives. Some people are honest and are wired to help others in need, and to be able to do that, such kind hearts need a larger platform to reach out that love to the needy. Politics is not basically on a governmental level. It happens at workplaces, schools, churches and almost any institution with a hierarchical body.
The question of the new age being concerned with politics cannot be answered in a day or two but will take decades for the answer to manifest. The new millennium presents fanciful living where money is becoming the common denominator for the measure of success. "Money-making" is what almost every youth is particularly concerned with now. To be honest, no one wants to be financially stranded, It's not a pleasant state to be in, but leaving Politics in the hands of the few isn't also the best idea. Sometimes arguing the good in politics might not be the typical ideology. Nevertheless, the many evil perceptions associated with politics, we cannot sit and watch everything fall apart.
If the young concern themselves with other activities and turn a blind eye towards governance and the politics that comes with it, it won't be long before evil actually takes over all that humanity hope to achieve. Being a politician does not automatically render you dishonest, self-serving, malicious, crook and evil. You are only bold enough to take the mantle and say "I am ready to lead my people through tin and tough until we become what we want". We the youth cannot always hide behind the music, movies, and the gadgets, etc until eternity. Those who can lead must muster the courage, study hard and be responsible for the majority who needs leadership.
Charles-Louis De Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, a French philosopher and lawyer once said, "To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them". For the youth to truly unearth what literally lies within greatness, they need to know what it means to "stand with others", believing in morality and comprehending the necessity of sacrifice. Leaders sacrifice themselves for the greater good of others, not vice versa as it manifests in the world we live in today. Rise from the ashes of selfishness and lit the world with kindness, love, happiness and above all else, pray for wisdom from God.
